Henley Masons 'Race Night' raises over £1200 for MIND

The MEZ of Upper Thames & Hogarth Chapter, E.Comp Colin White's son was part of a sponsored 'trek' in Guatemala in aid of MIND, the mental health charity. He had to raise [in advance] some £2500. This took place in February and proved to be quite an eye opener for all the young people who took part.

W.Bro.Ron Date suggested that he organise a race night at the Henley Masonic Centre on the 16th March.

Many people, masons and non masons joined together, rolled their sleeves up and some 55 people had a very pleasant evening, including a fish supper and raised in excess of £1200. We also had many people who could not attend, sponsoring races and horses, or just making a cash donation. Young Alec, who is a Law student, was absolutely staggered at the amount.

Although not strictly run under the guise of any Lodge, Chapter, etc., it was evident that Freemasonry had played a very large part in making this event a complete success.

Just as an aside, Ron and Colin's Mother Lodge, Whipps Cross, 4642, London, at the request of the WM, made a donation of £450 to the MIND project from the proceeds of their Ladies Festival.
