THE OXFORD TRANSPLANT CENTRE - AN APPEAL

FINAL NEWSLETTER (March 2003)

On behalf of my family may I express our appreciation for the outstanding support given by various Lodges in the Province following our appeal, begun in January 2002, for donations to provide twelve beds for in-patient care at The Oxford Transplant Centre(OTC). At Theodore Lodge’s Fifteenth Annual Burn’s Supper at ‘333’ on Saturday 25 January, £1200 was raised which achieved the target figure of £18000. A further £2000 has also been promised from both Masonic and non-masonic sources. My family is extremely grateful, as are the staff of the OTC, for donations received, particularly as both Bro. Andy Jnr and his brother Ewan are enjoying extremely healthy lives.

As may be recalled, the family appeal is but a small part of the 5 year redevelopment plan for the existing Oxford Transplant Centre building to provide for research, teaching and patient care plus diagnosis and treatment of renal failure, liver failure and diabetes. Changing circumstances has refocused the initial plan to relocate Oxford University’s research laboratories in transplant biology from the John Radcliffe Hospital to the Oxford Transplant Centre at the Churchill hospital. The redevelopment is now taking a phased approach. Phase one is to build an extension that will provide an additional 1,000 square metres of clinical space for patient care. The goal is to raise £5 million. So far over £627,539 has been raised through donations and pledges, which is about 20% towards the target. Your future support would be appreciated.

As a personal commitment to The Oxford Transplant Centre I intend to continue indefinitely offering to Lodges my illustrated Talk entitled ‘Robert Burns – Man and Mason’. I would be pleased to hear from any Lodge who may be interested.

Finally may I once again express appreciation for all donations. They have been thankfully received and will be faithfully applied.

Yours sincerely and fraternally

Andy Gordon
